Stable Finite Element Methods for the Stokes Problem

چکیده
The mixed finite element scheme of the Stokes problem with pressure stabilization is analyzed for the cross-grid Pk−Pk−1 elements, k≥ 1, using discontinuous pressures. The P+ k −Pk−1 elements are also analyzed. We prove the stability of the scheme using the macroelement technique. The order of convergence follows from the standard theory of mixed methods. The macroelement technique can also be applicable to the stability analysis for some higher order methods using continuous pressures such as Taylor-Hood methods, cross-grid methods, or iso-grid methods.

Superconvergence in Finite Element Methods for the Optimal Control Problem of the Stokes Equations
An optimal control problem for 2-d and 3-d Stokes problem is investigated with pointwise control constraints. This paper is concerned with the discretization of the control by piecewise constant functions. The state and the adjoint state are discretized by stable or stabilized finite element schemes. In the paper a superconvergence based post-processing is suggest, which allows for significant ...
متن کاملAn Absolutely Stabilized Finite Element Method for the Stokes Problem
An absolutely stabilized finite element formulation for the Stokes problem is presented in this paper. This new formulation, which is nonsymmetric but stable without employment of any stability constant, can be regarded as a modification of the formulation proposed recently by Hughes and Franca in [8]. Optimal error estimates in L2-norm for the new stabilized finite element approximation of bot...
متن کاملStokes Complexes and the Construction of Stable Finite Elements with Pointwise Mass Conservation
Two families of conforming finite elements for the two-dimensional Stokes problem are developed, guided by two discrete smoothed de Rham complexes, which we coin “Stokes complexes.” We show that the finite element pairs are inf-sup stable and also provide pointwise mass conservation on very general triangular meshes.
متن کاملUniformly-stable Finite Element Methods for Darcy-stokes-brinkman Models
In this paper, we consider 2D and 3D Darcy-Stokes interface problems. These equations are related to Brinkman model that treats both Darcy’s law and Stokes equations in a single form of PDE but with strongly discontinuous viscosity coefficient and zerothorder term coefficient. We present three different methods to construct uniformly stable finite element approximations. The first two methods a...
متن کاملNumerical Investigations on Several Stabilized Finite Element Methods for the Stokes Eigenvalue Problem
Several stabilized finite element methods for the Stokes eigenvalue problem based on the lowest equal-order finite element pair are numerically investigated. They are penalty, regular, multiscale enrichment, and local Gauss integration method. Comparisons between them are carried out, which show that the local Gauss integration method has good stability, efficiency, and accuracy properties, and...
